LUMBER STACKERS
HOURS: 1ST SHIFT
WAGE: $16-$17/HOUR
LOCATION: MUSCODA, WI
Position Summary:
As a Lumber Stacker, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently stacking, organizing, and preparing lumber for drying, storage, shipment, or further processing. You play a key role in maintaining production flow, ensuring product quality and safety in the yard or mill environment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Stack rough-sawn or planed lumber in large piles or on kiln cars as required.
- Insert “stickers” (thin boards) between layers of lumber to permit air circulation for drying, and secure stacks correctly.
- Monitor stacking machines (if automated) and/or manually stack boards according to specification, ensuring neat, stable, and safe stacks.
- Assist with loading/unloading of kiln cars, trucks, or yard stacks.
- Perform regular inspection and housekeeping of your work area: remove debris, maintain clean walking surfaces, ensure safe conditions.
- Work with team members (ground support and top stackers) to keep production moving and meet throughput targets.
- Follow all safety rules, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and participate in safety reviews or Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) as required.
- Other duties as assigned by supervision to support yard/mill operations.
Qualifications / Skills:
- High school diploma or GED preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience in lumber yard, sawmill, or stacking operations preferred but not always required.
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials (e.g., boards, bundles of lumber) repeatedly and safely.
- Good physical stamina: standing, walking, climbing, bending, lifting, and working in varying temperatures (yard, kiln, mill).
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills to follow instructions, read stack tags/labels, measure lengths, etc.
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
- Willingness to follow safety protocols and operate in a potentially noisy, fast-paced industrial environment.
Work Conditions / Physical Requirements:
- Physical labor oriented job: lifting heavy boards or bundles (50+ lbs typical), repetitive motions, exposure to outdoor/indoor yard, kiln, and mill environments.
- May be required to work shift schedules (including early mornings, nights, weekends) depending on production.
- Exposure to dust, wood particles, possible kiln heat, and machinery; PPE required (gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, etc.).
- Safety risk: working around moving equipment, forklifts, stackers, conveyors; vigilance required.
